Part of educating our campus community about the importance of energy efficiency means reaching out to younger generations to get them excited about energy conservation! Two of our interns did a presentation on energy efficiency at a local middle school in front of 25 students. The epxerience was a success and the kids really got into the presentation. When you flip a switch on to turn on your lights, you normally don't think about how much energy it actually takes to keep it going. This project may make you appreciate the amount of work it takes to make sure you have adequate lighting. This Fall, Green Campus Interns and volunteers will have purchased new bicycle equipment in the UCSB Rec Cen known as Viscycles that will let you help to power your campus! It also has a cool monitor to let you know actually how much electricity you produced. This project is made possible through a T.G.I.F. grant that went into funding the purchase of these bikes! Vending machines are ubiquitous in many of UCSB's buildings and as a result consume a lot of energy, especially since they're left on 24 hours a day. Green Campus is looking into funding and installing several vending misers in several facility vending machines to save the campus some $$$ and cutting down on carbon emissions, while still keeping your drinks nice and cool.
