Energy Competition

How It Works

Each of UCSB's eight first year residence halls participates in the competition.

Basically each building will need to work as a whole to promote awareness of conservation and come up with a plan to save energy.

This can be done through using minimal lighting during the day, using the dryers less, and turning off computers and stereos during the day.

Green Campus will be coming to each building's Hall Counsel meeting to talk about the many ways to save energy.

First......

Have you registered as a participant?

Did you know...

~Last year's residence hall students saved over $40,000 in electricty costs by paricipating in the energy competition?

~There is a light on your room's desk unit? Using that light instead of the celing light saves energy and money.

~The Recreation Center has a solar arrray that helps power the facility?

You must be in our system to win prizes and get updates.

Why Participate?

To help spread awareness of conservation! In a time when global warming is still not accepted as a reality by some, now more than ever we need to make visible efforts to promote efficiency and conservation.

It is hard to see the fiscal savings from using less power as a student in the Res Hall....so we have created some incentives for you.

The building that saves the most amount of energy will be declared the winner. This building will be given a free dance party and prizes will be raffled off to its residents. Past prizes have included Mac Books, iPods, surf boards, bikes, and gift certificates.

We promise that this year's prizes won't disappoint.

End of Year Celebration!

Results will be updated soon!
