Summer Projects 2010
Featured Stakeholders
The Physical Facilities Office is currently participating in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design's (LEED) pilot portfolio program for institutions that have multiple LEED certified buildings. One requirement is to monitor the energy usage in each one of those buildings, which will require a lot of man power for actually walking around and collecting data. Working with the PF Office, Green Campus placed two (2) UCSB students with internships for academic credit. Also, Brandon Kaysen, a Green Campus Intern, will also assist with auditing. Green workforce development? Check. Real-time experience on an awesome LEED pilot project? Check. Working on an awesome team? Check!

It's one thing to talk about doing an energy audit for a building or space and another to actually conducting one. Green Campus is aiming to educate the UCSB community on how to actively take part in reducing their energy usage through an educational video! Green Campus intern Brandon Kaysen will be at arms ready with a camera, editing a video that shows how to conduct an energy audit. Be on the lookout for the video to be posted in the middle of Fall Quarter 2010.

So you were the head or your environmental group in high school or maybe you just took a class in environmental science. Or maybe you know nothing about environmental issues. The aim of Green Gauchos is to network interested students with UCSB environmental organizations to help promote education, awareness, and change on environmental topics on-campus. This is a great opportunity to network with other environmental folks on campus and instill change, plus it's a great way to become a part of a close knit and amazing environmental community here at UCSB. Green Campus is partnering with the Environmental Affairs Board, LabRats, and Facilities Management to give Green Gauchos the chance to work on amazing projects. FALL 2010
Energy Convergence
When you flip a switch on to turn on your lights, you normally don't think about how much energy it actually takes to keep it going. This project may make you appreciate the amount of work it takes to make sure you have adequate lighting. Starting in Fall 2010, Green Campus will be purchasing new bicycle equipment in the UCSB Rec Cen known as Viscycles that will let you help to power your campus! It also has a cool monitor to let you know actually how much electricity you produced. Look out for more information soon as we're in the process of purchasing and assembling the bikes.
FALL 2010
Vending machines are ubiquitous in many of UCSB's buildings and as a result consume a lot of energy, especially since they're left on 24 hours a day. Green Campus is looking into funding and installing several vending misers in several facility vending machines to save the campus some $$$ and cutting down on carbon emissions, while still keeping your drinks nice and cool.
